Passion for hair pt2 (Brushing)
Okay so what is it that makes good hair so bloody good? You know when you see someone and their hair looks amazing and your like, why cant I have hair like that? Well you can. First of all you have to understand what it is that you are working with. Hair only grows at half an inch a month tops! So if you have hair past your shoulders, all the hair at the ends is at least two years old. (if not older) Now the fact that hair cannot repair itself, means that any damage it recives will not just go away - and hair can go through a lot of abuse in two years belive me!! So the less abuse you give it the better. Obvious right? (I hope so!) But what it is you are really looking after is the cuticle. (more on what exactly that is later) Brushing after washing. I bet your thinking - I know how to brush my own hair! hmmm well I hope you do, but some of my clients dont! So always remember these tips. NEVER brush soaking wet hair EVER, If you do you will stretch it, pull your cut out of shape and be well on the way to ruining the cuticle. Want that perfect hair? Then you should remove as much moisture as poss using a towel (never rub the hair with a towel, ALWAYS pat the hair dry/squeeze the hair inside the towel) after that (and not before!) you should apply a light, leave-in, heat protective conditioner. Then remove around 95% of the moisture from your hair using a hair dryer set to low speed and low heat. Then use a wide toothed comb or paddle brush and GENTLY comb the hair through, ALWAYS starting at the ends and then working your way up to the roots. NEVER start at the roots EVER. If you are on the quest for that amazing hair I talked about at the start of this entry - knowing how to brush you hair is one of the first steps. |
